KING MAHA PARAKRAMABAHU STONE STATUE & PARAKKRAMA SAMUDRA, POLONNARUEWA. LIFE TRACKER .

KING MAHA PARAKRAMABAHU Stone statue POLONNARUWA.

11 feet and 6 inches statue carved out of stone. Whose statue it is has not been identified for sure. According to the Tejo Bala Parakrama visible in the statue, many scholars accept that it belongs to King Maha Parakramabahu. Some say it is Pulatisi statue while others say that it can be accepted as Kapila or Agasti statue. There are only opinions about what the object is on the hand of the statue. However, some say that it may be a book. Dr Senarat Paranavithana says that it may be a yoke.

According to the ancient Indian concept, the yoke symbolizes the royal position, so it can be concluded that the king Maha Parakramabhahu is here.

Parakrama Samudra

This is the creation of King Parakramabhahu. We call it a lake but it is a lake complex.”Thopa lake”, “Eramudu lake”, “Dubutulu lake”, “Kalahagala lake” and ‘’Bhu lake” are the parts of that lake complex. The grant water supply line is Angammadilla giant canal.

In 1947, only parts belonging to “Thopa Lake”, “Eramudu Lake”, and “Dubutulu Lake” were developed. “Kalahagala” and “Bhu Lake” were covered in forest. Even so, the lake embankment is only 8 and a half miles long. It is 25 feet deep. It consists of three culverts. The height of the embankment is 40 feet. The land area covered by water is 5350 acres.
